Letter to US DOT Secretary Elaine Chao – Urgent FAA Reauthorization Changes Needed

This is a letter we are sending today to the US Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. The letter urges immediate changes to the imminent passage of the FAA Reauthorization Act in light of last week’s drone ban passed by the Cook County, Illinois.

Cook County has banned all take offs and landings of drones (UAS) from all “land, building or facility owned or leased by Cook County”. This type of “stupid” local drone law is far worse than many other bad drone laws we have seen passed. The trajectory is not good.

The letter is copied to our Illinois US Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth. We hope you will call on your US representatives to do the same. As I have written before, things have been looking bad. But this ban makes clear we are heading for major losses directly impacting the UAS – drone industry in the United States, both commercially and recreationally.
